Bunny Buns

You've never heard of bunny buns? WHAT? You are so missing out. I normally do not share recipes, but this one needs to be made known to the world.

Here's how to make the deliciousness. My family has had these at Easter every year since I was a kid. And whenever else we feel like making them. They are that good.

Combine 1/4 cup warm water and 1 Tablespoon yeast. Let rest.

Scald 1 cup milk.
Blend with 1/3 cup sugar 1/2 cup shortening and 1 teaspoon salt. COOL.

Stir in 2 cups flour. BEAT WELL.

Mix in 2 eggs and yeast mixture.
Add 1/4 cup orange juice and 2 Tablespoons grated orange peel.

Add 3 1/2 cups more flour to make dough soft.

Let stand 10 minutes.
Knead 5 - 10 minutes.

Let Rise 2 hours.

Punch downn and let rest 10 minutes.

Roll into a 1/2 inch think rectangle and cut into 1/2 inch strips.

To shape: make strip into a U shape. twist top ends 2x. Use some dough to roll into a ball for the tail in the center hole. See the picture above.

Let rise 1 hour.

Bake 375 for 12-15 minutes.

Glaze while hot. I use 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1/4 cup hot water, 1 Tablespoon butter, and a splash of orange juice.

If you want more glaze after first coat has set, drizzle over the bunny.

They are not as orangey as you think they are. Trust me. Dee-licious.

Questions? Confusion? Tell me. Need a lesson in bunny making? Come on over.
